What a Whole-House Repipe Includes

A whole-house repipe replaces the water supply lines throughout a property — from the meter through every fixture — with new copper or PEX. It is the answer when the pipes themselves have reached the end of their service life, rather than any one leak in them. Most of the homes we repipe share the same history: a pinhole leak patched, another a few months later, then a warm spot on the floor or water that runs rust-colored.

Our crews plan the pipe runs, pull the plumbing permit, open the walls only where a run has to pass, install and pressure-test the new system, and pass the city inspection before anything is closed up. Patching is part of the job, and if you want the openings textured and paint-ready, we do that too. While the work is underway we cover furniture in plastic, put up containment walls, and lay construction-paper walkways so the house stays clean. A typical single-family home takes a day or two in PEX and a few days in copper; larger homes and commercial buildings take longer, and we schedule the water shutoff to be as short as possible.

Copper or PEX: Choosing the Material

We install both, and we quote both where it makes sense. Copper repiping is the time-tested choice: rigid, corrosion-resistant, proven to last 50 years or more when installed properly, and well suited to exposed runs where the pipe will be seen. PEX repiping uses flexible cross-linked polyethylene that routes through existing walls, ceilings, and tight spaces with fewer joints and fewer openings, which is why a PEX repipe often finishes in a day or two. PEX is rated for 40 to 50 years, does not rust or scale, tolerates the ground movement Southern California gets, and the PEX we install is certified for potable water.

Which one your property calls for depends on its age, how the existing lines are routed, your budget, and the local water. Much of the pre-1960s housing across East Los Angeles, Montebello, and the San Gabriel Valley was plumbed in galvanized steel, and hard water leaves scale on top of the corrosion; those homes usually need everything replaced regardless of material. We recommend the material that fits the house, not the one that pays better.

Sewer Line Replacement and Repair

A sewer problem announces itself as drains that back up together, sewage odors, or a soggy patch in the yard. Before recommending anything we run a video camera inspection so you see the actual condition of the line — roots, cracks, offsets, or a collapse — and where it sits. Isolated damage gets a spot repair or sectional replacement. A line failing along its length gets a full sewer line replacement, by excavation or a trenchless method depending on the property, and we restore the work area before we leave. Most residential replacements take one to three days.

In most Southern California cities the homeowner is responsible for the lateral — the run from the house to the public main — and the city maintains the main. Root intrusion is the most common thing we find in older laterals, and the clay laterals under Montebello’s older homes, laid in short sections with mortared joints, are especially prone to it.

Gas Line Repair, Installation, and Gas Repiping

Gas work is the one service where the emergency comes first: if you smell gas, leave the building and call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 from outside, then call us. Our licensed technicians respond around the clock to locate a leak with a controlled pressure test, complete the gas line repair to code, and handle the documentation the utility needs to restore service.

We also run new gas lines for stoves, dryers, water heaters, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, pool heaters, and generators, and we repipe whole gas systems when the piping is too corroded or too undersized for today’s appliance load to be worth patching. Every repair, replacement, and new run is permitted, and the utility requires a passing pressure test before service is turned on — our gas pressure testing service provides the test and the paperwork, whether the job is ours or the test is for escrow.

Apartment, Condo, and HOA Repiping

When leaks keep surfacing across different units, the building’s piping is failing, and patching unit by unit gets more expensive every year. Apartment and multifamily repiping replaces the risers, branch lines, and in-unit plumbing with new copper or PEX in phases, so tenants stay in their homes and water is back on for affected units by the end of each workday. We supply tenant-notice templates, pull the permits, pressure-test and pass inspection on every phase, and leave every unit patched and paint-ready. Owners get a fixed per-building bid, and boards and management companies get the documentation they need for reserve studies. Buildings plumbed in galvanized steel (1970s and earlier) or polybutylene (1978 to 1995) are the ones living on borrowed time.

Finding the Problem Before Fixing It

Repiping is the right answer only when the pipes are the problem, so most jobs start with an inspection. Slab leak detection uses electronic listening equipment, line tracing, and pressure testing to pinpoint a leak under the foundation without exploratory jackhammering. An exploratory leak search does the same for leaks hidden behind walls, under floors, or underground, opening only where the leak actually is. Gas pressure testing proves a gas system tight for escrow, utility restoration, or permit sign-off. And a video camera inspection shows the inside of a drain or sewer line, with footage you keep.

Repair, Reroute, or Repipe?

One leak is a repair. A pattern is a different problem. When detection turns up a single failure in otherwise sound pipe, repairing that section is the right call, and we will tell you so. When the same system has leaked two or three times, or the pipe we open is corroded along its whole length, another patch buys a few months.

Reroutes sit in the middle. Running a new line along an accessible path to bypass a failed run under the slab is a sound fix on its own terms, and it avoids breaking concrete. But if the rest of the house is the same age and the same material, a reroute often turns out to be the first section of a repipe you end up doing anyway, one room at a time and at a higher total cost. Permits, Inspections, and Warranty

Whole-house repipes, sewer line replacements, and gas line work all require a permit and a passing inspection in California. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector on site; on a repipe or sewer replacement, that paperwork is what separates work that appraises and insures cleanly from work that does not. Every new water or gas system is pressure-tested before the walls close.
